Shopping for Tweens and Teens
Tweens and teens can be some of the most intimidating people to shop for out of anyone on your Christmas list. Unlike children, who are happy with almost any toy, tweens and teens have strong opinions and definite dislikes. The last thing you want to do is buy something ‘uncool’ that gets an eye roll on Christmas morning
This list of stocking fillers for 12 year old boys will help you fill a stocking your tween will love. If you nee help with bigger Christmas present ideas, you should check out this post on awesome gift ideas for teen boys as well!

Stocking Stuffer Ideas for All Tweens
I first want to say that this list of stocking stuffers does not necessarily have to apply only to tween boys. Quite frankly, any tween might be interested in these stocking stuffers. Although some of these suggestions veer toward the more traditionally masculine side of the spectrum, there’s no reason why any tween couldn’t enjoy them.
If your 12 year old doesn’t have traditional “boy” interests there are plenty of suggestion on this list that will be great for him, but you may wish to skip some suggestions that revolve around hockey, comic books etc. This list of stocking stuffers for tween girls may also be of help.
How to Keep Stocking Costs Down
One thing to consider while choosing stocking stuffers is the cost of items you’ll be purchasing. Stockings can add up to A LOT of money. Keeping most stocking stuffers under $10 dollars and choosing a few special splurges is a great way to way to keep stocking costs down.
Another quick tip for keeping costs down in to include items that your tween will need anyway in their stocking. This could include body wash, face cleanser, toothpaste, deodorant, socks, undies, etc. If you’re going to have to buy it anyway, you might as well put it in his stocking!
One final tip is if you have more than one child, buy things in bulk and split between your children. Bulk packages of things like candy, hot chocolate, socks and squishies are perfect to split among children.
Stocking Fillers for 12 Year Old Boys
So without further ado, here are the stocking filler ideas for 12 year old boys!
Personal Hygiene Stocking Stuffers
All kids love bath bombs. These ones have superhero toys inside, making them perfect for comic book-loving boys. There are also versions with LEGO figures, aliens and sports chains. These are made for sensitive skin and are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, cruelty-free, non-GMO, and eco-friendly. And they won’t stain your tub!
Every kid loves to experiment with hair dye. This colour hairspray is washable. Try red and green to keep with the Christmas theme.
Twelve year old boys are just starting to experiment with body spray. You can steer your boy away from Axe (yuck) and toward a more natural scent, like this one, which is made of pure essential oils, and has not been tested on animals. It’s non-GMO and BPA-free.
Shampoo bars are all the rage right now. They are so much better for the environment than traditional shampoo bottles, and last way longer. Shampoo bars are mainly marketed at women, but this one one is perfect for men (or boys who consider themselves men).
Food Stocking Stuffers
Hot chocolate is the perfect cozy Christmas treat. A few single serving packs fit nicely in a stocking and will give your son a lovely Christmas treat.
These Hershey’s chocolate snacks are classic stocking items and the Christmas-themed packaging is so cute! Bonus: this is a bulk pack so you can enjoy some snacks while you’re packing your stockings!
Tech Stocking Stuffer Ideas
It’s probably pretty common that your son uses up all the charge on his cell phone. He’ll love a lightweight portable charger like this one so he never loses his ‘lifeline’ again.
Your tween is probably up to her eyeballs in electronics. A new charger will be a perfect gift to keep everything from losing power!
A new pair of headphones makes a great gift for anyone, but especially a tween who blares their music 24/7! Headphones are a gift for your tween AND for yourself.
A USB drive is a great gift for pretty much anyone over the age of 10 This ninja one is playful and fun, while being super useful!
A new cell phone case is a great gift that fits perfectly into a stocking and isn’t too expensive. If Pokemon in’t your kid’s thing, there are so many choices available. You could also opt for a more expensive OtterBox if your kid is accident prone (and what 12 year old isn’t?)
Sports-Related Stocking Stuffers
If your kid is into hockey, new laces are super useful and fit perfectly into a stocking.
Like hockey skate laces, hockey tape is another perfect stocking stuffer for any hockey player.
If your tween is an athlete (or very accident prone), they could probably use some pro-wrap tape. In the tween years, competitive sports start to ramp up and your tween will appreciate this sports tape, which doesn’t stick or pull skin when you wrap it. Plus, the rainbow colours are so appealing!
If your tween is a fishing fan, fishing lures make a perfect stocking stuffer.
Fun Stocking Stuffers
Slime is all the rage for every kid right now! This pack is galaxy multi-coloured slime. Because slime is so popular, you can order a 6 pack and give it out to all the kids in your life.
Every kid loves squishies. Most look quite feminine, but these ones are great for any child. Squishies are fun and great for stress relief!
Your 12 year old probably thinks he’s a grown up, but all preteens love farts. A whoopie cushion is the perfect novelty gift to keep him occupied all Christmas long. Just be careful it’s not used against you!
While you may be tempted to fill your tween’s stocking with more grown up items, I believe everyone needs a game for Christmas. Exploding Kittens is great because it’s a little more grown up (and funny) than most kids card games, but it’s easy to learn and recommended for kids seven and up.
Mystic Fire magically turns your fire different colours. All you have to do is toss the pouch into the fire. It will make gathering around the fireplace a little more exciting on Christmas morning!
Glow sticks are fun for any kid, even big kids. These glow stick bugs are extra neat. This is another bulk pack that can be distributed between multiple kids.
Kanoodle is a series of different 2D and 3D puzzle games. It’s a great inexpensive stocking stuffer that will actually give your kiddo something to DO Christmas morning once all the unwrapping is over.
There is just something about boys and bathroom readers. I’ve never met one who didn’t enjoy reading a bathroom reader!
All kids love fart putty. It’s science. This stocking stuffer will elicit a few giggles on Christmas morning (and beyond)
Nerf guns are so much fun, and this teeny one fits nicely in a stocking!
A small LEGO kit is a great stocking stuffer for those who like to build. There are so many different versions of LEGO that it will be easy to find one that matches your child’s interest.
Colouring books have been proven to be incredibly relaxing for adults and teens, as well as children. Many adult colouring books are geared more toward females, but this animal colouring book is a great gender-neutral choice. The animals are absolutely gorgeous. If you have a colouring enthusiast, these could actually be framed and displayed in your home!
This Zombie one is a little less intricate, but still lots of fun!
Your tween will love some grown up colouring supplies to go with their new colouring book!
If your child is interested in Pokemon, throw a pack of Pokemon cards in their stocking.
If your kid likes skateboarding, these decals make a great stocking stuffer. This pack is superhero themed, and there are a ton of choices!
Educational Stocking Stuffers
A book is a fantastic stocking stuffer. It’s educational, but also the perfect way to keep your kid occupied during Christmas vacation. Choose the next book in a favorite series, or choose a new series. If your kid is not enthusiastic about reading, try a graphic novel, which can be more engaging.
A journal is a great stocking stuffer if your boy likes to write. The first journal is more fun and silly, which makes it a perfect stocking suffer for a twelve year old boy.
The second is a mother-son journal keeepsake, which is just lovely. It might not be a stocking stuffer every twelve year old would love, but it would create such a nice memory if you think your son would be up for it!
Comic books and tweens just go together. If your child is a comic book fan, get them a new issue of their favorite series. If they aren’t, a comic may pique their interest and start a new hobby. If our tween has a favorite comic book movie, why not get him an actual comic so he can see how the story all began?
If your tween is creative, they may appreciate the change to create their own comic. This is a great gift, which is educational, but also a ton of fun!
Would You Rather Book: Christmas Edition
Would You Rather books are a super fun way to engage with your tween. If you’re not familiar, the book will provide you with funny ‘would you rather’ prompts associated with Christmas such as ‘would you rather be driven around by Santa in a garbage truck or the Grinch in a limousine?’ Prompts are Christmas-themed and family friendly. A great way to giggle together all Christmas long!
Practical Stocking Stuffers
Now that your child is a tween, you may have given them their own house key. A cute key chain will ensure they don’t misplace it!
A reusable water bottle is a great stocking stuffer because it takes up so much room in the stocking! I like this sports-themed one for tween boy (there are several different sport options available) .
Flashlight
A flashlight is a great gift, no matter what. Whether your son uses it for practical reasons, or for fun (shadow puppets, anyone?) You can’t go wrong with a flashlight.
What is it with men and bungee cords? I don’t really know what they use them for, but all men, even teens and tweens, seem to revere them. If you’re looking for a novel but useful stocking stuffer, this is it.
Now that your tween is getting older, he might actually be earning his own money and need a wallet to store it in. This Minecraft one is fun for tweens!
Tween boys can get into some pretty gross stuff. Hand sanitizer will at least give him the option of cleaning his hands before eating.
Clothing Stocking Stuffers
Christmas Socks/Boxers
Every kid, no matter how old, always needs new socks and underwear. My motto is if they need it, it might as well go in the stocking. If it goes in the stocking, it might as well be Christmas-themed! I love these Christmas T-rex socks!
These gaming socks are so funny, and your tween will love them!
If your kids are like mine, they leave hats everywhere and we’re constantly running out. A new one makes a perfect stocking stuffer.
These gloves are perfect for tweens because they’re touch finger gloves, which are perfect for phone-loving tweens. Keep your son’s fingers warm while they text!
Sentimental Stocking Stuffers
A Christmas ornament is a must for every stocking. My own mother gave each of her children an ornament every year. Once we moved out, we had our very own collection of ornaments to decorate tour own trees. This is a sweet tradition that is so worth it!
Well, that’s my list of great stocking stuffers for 12 year old boys. I hope this helps you with your Christmas shopping!
