Halloween is coming and if your kids are anything like mine, they are dying to get into the season with decorating and crafting up a storm! Here is a great Halloween spider craft to do with your preschooler or school-aged child. This spider craft makes a great decoration, takes NO prep and uses everyday materials.
Halloween Spider Craft
Hannah has been gearing up for Halloween for quite some time. She has about twenty costume options and rotates her number one pick once or twice a day. She loves to look at pictures from last Halloween when she was a witch.
This is the first year she really understands what Halloween in all about (i.e. getting candy). She is already telling Daddy that he isn’t allowed to take her candy this year!
She is loving all things spooky and absolutely adored making this cool spider craft!
This is a craft I first learned about when I was doing my teaching internship (I shudder to think how long ago that was!). My co-operating teacher did this spiderweb craft each year with kids from Kindergarten to Grade Five and they all loved it. I’ve done it almost every year with my own class and they are equally as fascinated with the process and results.
This spider craft would also be great for toddlers and preschoolers with a bit of help from a grown-up when gluing. Hannah loved squeezing out the glue at first, but her little hands got tired after a while and I took over.
You probably already have most, if not all, of the materials for this easy spider craft. If not, they are easy to find at the craft store, or even your local dollar store.
The best part about this spiderweb craft is that it makes a cool decoration or toy for your kids to play with. Hannah has incorporated the spider and web into her imaginative play (last I checked, she was acting out the episode of Paw Patrol where Rubble meets a giant spider).
So without further ado, here are the instructions for the spider craft!
Materials for Halloween Spider Craft:
- wax paper
- yarn (preferably white)
- white glue
- black pipe cleaners
- googly eyes
Halloween Spider Craft Instructions:
- Spread out a piece of wax paper (freezer or parchment paper will work too).
- Arrange yarn in a spiderweb design on the wax paper.
- Dab glue on the yarn (add lots until yarn is saturated).
- Let dry.
- Peel the spider craft off and discard waxed paper.
Use pipe cleaners to make a spider.
- Twist four pipe cleaners together to make legs.
- Wrap 1-2 pipe cleaners around the middle to form a body.
- Bend legs into spider craft.
- Glue on googly eyes.
This spider craft is so so simple, and makes a spooky 3-D decoration your kids will love!
You can hang this spiderweb craft in your kid’s room or attach to a window for a spooky Halloween decoration. It would look great in a doorway as well!
