It’s Fall, Y’all.
Well, it will be… and sooner than I care to admit. I have to tell you I have a bit of the end-of-summer blues. Make that a MAJOR case of the blues.
I just love summer. Not only because I’m a teacher who enjoys summer vacation the way my toddler enjoys eating applesauce and watching Paw Patrol. I love the warm days (this is major in Canada, where it’s exciting any time the temperature is above zero!). The sun is shining and we spend most of the day outside, often at our cottage. The garden is producing. Most of all, I get to spend all day, everyday with Hannah. What’s better than that, right?
To me, fall means shorter days, skyrocketing heating bills and being constantly busy with the start of school. Ugh, right? UGHHHHHH!
I made this list of reasons to get excited for fall, mainly to help me stop mourning summer. I hope this gets you the teeniest bit excited about the impending season.
Amazing Reasons to be Excited for Fall
Harvest Time
Here in New Brunswick, we have quite a short growing season and there are a lot of veggies and fruit that take all spring/summer to grow. In Fall, the harvest really gets going and we can enjoy tons of fresh veggies from the garden. The number one reason I get excited for Fall is to enjoy the harvest I have spent the summer months toiling away on.
Fall Fashion
Cozy sweaters, layers, scarves and warm, rich colours. There is something about picking out a fall outfit that takes you back to back-to-school shopping and the excitement of starting a new school year (ok, as a teacher I still do start a new school year, but I’m sure everyone feels this way, right?).
Apple Picking
There is something so special about picking your own apples in the fall. They taste better, more crisp and sweet. Plus, who doesn’t love a good apple picking picture? Mine has remained as my Facebook profile picture all year!
Thanksgiving
Personally, this is my second favorite holiday, after Christmas. I love the turkey, homemade stuffing and delicious veggies, fresh from the harvest. Nothing is cozier than having the whole family (in our house usually over twenty of us) gathered around the table together. There is nothing I’m more thankful for than that.
Pumpkin, Pumpkin and More Pumpkin!
I know it’s basic, but I just looooove pumpkin spiced ANYTHING. Yes, you can bake pumpkin baked goods anytime of the year, but it just feels distinctly fall-y.
Scenery
Who could forget the beautiful fall colours? One perk of living in Canada is the foliage is absolutely stunning this time of year (and where I am from, there is LOTS of foliage to be enjoyed).
Photography

Full Disclosure: Not us… My husband doesn’t want his picture up on the blog! I will work on him!
Right on the heels of gorgeous foliage is the beautiful outdoor family pictures that spring up (get it? haha) every fall. We booked a photo-shoot with a wonderful photographer and I am already excited to hang our newest family photos.
New Television Shows
Although Netflix (my love) and other streaming services are helping with this, the majority of new television shows still come out in fall. I am personally tired of watching re-runs of The Sopranos all summer and could use some fresh background noise.
Three Months Until Christmas
Hey, you gotta have something to look forward to, right? The official start of fall is September 22nd. That’s only three months and three days until Christmas. I will be counting down the days!
Fall Bucket List
In case you’re also not so excited by fall, here’s a great bucket list of fun fall activities to do with your kids. Guaranteed to cure the end-of-summer blues!
Your turn! Tell me you favorite things about fall! Or commiserate about the end of summer with me, hee hee.
I cannot wait for fall! Love this list 🙂 I wanted to also let you know I have nominated you for the Blogger Recognition Award. Keep up the great work Mama! http://www.tickledscarlett.com/blog-recognition-award/
Loved this! Such a great reminder of how awesome fall is. Summer is also my favorite season but looking at this list, I got really excited for fall.
I’m getting excited! The air is cooling down and autumn is my FAVORITE season!
I am a summer girl too and dreading the cooler months! Thanks for helping me look on the bright side!
I am the same! We’ll get through (right?). 🙂
Yes to all of these wonderful things about Fall! Especially love new TV shows, fall fashion and Thanksgiving!
I love fall, and this list revved me up to get excited about it…even though I’m one of those crazy people who can’t stand pumpkin! I have enjoyed cooler temps this summer (pretty AMAZING for Texas).
