If you’re like me, you have no problem picking out a few bigger toys to go in the basket (or let’s be honest, near the basket if it won’t fit inside), but you struggle with something to put in the eggs.
I don’t allow my daughter to have much chocolate, and the last thing she needs at 6 am on Sunday morning is a sugar rush! I do like to make her Easter Egg hunt fun and exciting for her, so I’m here to share my top non-sugar filled egg ideas with you!

Food Non-Candy Easter Egg Fillers
This will depend on the age of your child, and their food preferences. In my experience, toddlers will be not be expecting candy or chocolate eggs. They’ll be thrilled with any snack they find. I would recommend not buying that particular treat for a few weeks before Easter so there is a novelty factor for them.
- Berries: This has always been a hit in my house. We don’t buy a lot of berries in the off season, so the novelty of berries in the eggs is always exciting.

Tips for Keeping Costs Low
Like I said, I can easily pick out some bigger toys to go in Hannah’s basket, and of course, those toys can get a little pricey. For that reason, I like to keep costs low for the items I pack in the eggs. Here are a few ideas for keeping costs low, without resorting to that $1.99 bag of chocolate eggs.
Buy in Bulk
It goes without saying that everything is cheaper in bulk. Make your Easter Egg hunt themes (e.g. all dinky cars, r all Play Dough) to cut down on costs. If you have a few kids around the same age, pick a couple themes to suit their interests.
Team Up with Friends
If you want some variety in your egg hunt, team up with a few friends or family members with little ones. Go in together to order a few different bulk items, and then have an egg packing party the Saturday before Easter. Just don’t stay up too late, you know the kids will be up extra early the next morning!
Add Some Variety
You don’t have to have a pricey toy in each Easter egg. Mix it up. Try stickers in most eggs with a few Shopkins or Paw Patrol Figures mixed in.
Another option is to have inexpensive toys in all but one egg that you hide really well. Then their last egg will have a special surprise!
Remember the Joy of the Hunt
In my opinion, the excitement of Easter morning is the joy of the egg hunt, not the little treats or toys inside the eggs. Keep it simple and let them enjoy the magic of the holiday and the excitement of the egg hunt itself!
